Student Activities

CATA Student take part in the Portsmouth, NH 2010 Halloween Parade

Cocheco Arts and Technology Academy has a number of clubs in which students may take part.  Each club has a teacher adviser, meets after school or during lunch and, most importantly, welcomes and appreciates all students.

Dance Commitee

Dance Committee has the responsibility for all aspects of planning and holding school dances. There are usually three to four dances a year, including Prom in the Spring. Dance Committee also raises the money for these events by selling drinks and other items during lunch.

Socratic Society

Socratic Society is a place for thoughtful students to gather to consider complex and difficult questions. Each month, the group tackles a new issue, working collaboratively to try to work out responses to questions that often have no easy answer; do we have a right to die? is some art 'better' than others? are we required to respect everyone's opinion? Using the Socratic method of asking even more questions, the students work to unravel the depth and complexity of these ideas and, in so doing, learn more about themselves, each other, and their roles as active and engaged citizens.

Student Government

Student government focuses on helping clubs organize and on raising funds for student activities; this includes dances, field trips, and other special activities within the community. Student government is open to all students and functions best when involvement is diverse and consistent.

Ultimate Frisbee

Ultimate Frisbee is a club sport that has been offered at CATA for the past two years. Students meet at least once a week in Henry Law Park after school and scrimmage one another. Frequent impromptu scrimmages have occured with students from Dover High, and this coming fall students will be reaching out to other school clubs for a more formalized league schedule of play.

Where Purple?

Where Purple? was formed by students, along with members of the Seacoast Community, in response to the numerous suicides of LGBT youth in the Fall of 2010.  The group takes part in Spirit Day, Wear Purple Day, and other events.  Their goal is to eliminate bullying in all forms and to create a community at CATA that is virtually purple, or safe, at all times for all people.
