Allyson Brucie Izard
Formerly a newspaper journalist and publications editor for more than 20 years, Brucie has been a certified English teacher since 2009 and has taught at several high schools including Winnacunnet in Hampton, Kennett High School in North Conway and most recently, at Somersworth High School.
A graduate of Syracuse University with a dual degree in English and Journalism, Brucie earned a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2012 from SNHU.
Although she grew up on the Seacoast of NH, Brucie lived in Connecticut for 26 years where she raised two brilliant and compassionate daughters, Grayson and Molly, who have given her exceptionally brilliant grandchildren, Olivia and Scarlett, and Beau, whose arrival is eagerly anticipated in October 2019.
When she’s not reading a book, Brucie is gardening, cooking, swimming in the ocean, hiking with her dog, Izzy, or spending time with family. Her teaching philosophy is that everyone is good at something, and everyone has the capacity to improve and it’s her wish that students find a safe place to explore and express themselves through poetry, prose and other artistic pursuits in her classroom.
She hopes that her enthusiasm for reading and writing will energize and engage students and they all can learn from each other.
